Why didn’t Barack Obama choose Hillary Clinton as his running mate? Was he perhaps concerned that he himself was enough of a controversy for the Democratic campaign? That running for the White House with a woman might not calm the God fearing Americans who wouldn’t dream of voting for a black man with a foreign-sounding name unless he had a middle-aged white man standing next to him? Or was he simply afraid that Hillary Clinton might outshine him?

It seems like John McCain is very happy Clinton is out of the race for good. It made way for him to create his own controversy in selecting Sarah Palin. McCain only got in touch with Palin the day after Obama announced Biden as his VP candidate, and took another four days after that to make it official.

Did McCain have someone else in mind had Obama said Clinton instead?

There is no doubt that Sarah Palin gave the Republican bid for the White House a boost when she came on to the scene. A boost that have since died, only to reappear in a very different incarnation, as concern over her abilities.

Comparing Sarah Palin to Hillary Clinton is difficult. It would be like comparing a pair of new high healed stilettos to your comfortable walking boots. The stilettos might be great for a night at a ball and who cares about a few blisters, but when you don’t know what to expect, you need the boots. Having Clinton as your VP would be a dream for both candidates as she brings a ton of experience and media savvy after eight years as the First Lady.
