For all of us who wanted Hillary Clinton to win the primaries and be where Barck Obama is now is hoping and praying that he will appoint her as Secretary of State. That must be one of the strongest teams the US has had for a long, long time. Let’s see what the recent past has brought the world.
George W. Bush and Condi Rice. Now, Condi isn’t bad, but for someone to do anything that doesn’t please president Cheney – sorry, Bush, and therefore pleases the world, has proven difficult. Before Condi Rice general Colin Powell tried his luck, but he didn’t get anywhere either.
This is why it is so important that Hillary gets this appointment. She and Obama has shown during his presidential campaign that they can work together, but she has also shown that she has a will and a way of her own. Granted her marriage to Bill brings her some baggage that is difficult to bear in this position, like the countless donations made to his libraries and charities by heads of state which have never been made pubic. But with so many relationships to repair it is paramount that Obama gets this right. Appoint someone with experience of international politics who is respected and someone other world leaders will listen to. Someone who has the US and the worlds best interests at heart.
