Will history improve Bush’s record?

For a lot of people, George W. Bush is already firmly placed on the ‘worst president’ list. Not because he started a war, or because he completely ignored the dangers of global warning, or his utter failure to act after hurricane Katrina, but because his total ineptness. He never should have become president, let alone a politician.

Bush has seen one of the worst approval ratings for a sitting president. Harry Truman’s approval rating was actually lower at a time, and he did some pretty stupid things. He dropped the first atom bomb, started the Cold War and the actual Korean War. But history can be good to stupid people, because now Truman is seen as a gutsy president, one who took risks for his country and acted where others would not have.

Mr. Bush will be hoping for similar vindication. For us who lived through his ‘presidency’ can only hope that our records of Bush’s reign be stronger than the ones recorded from people disappointed in Truman, and that history will not save the grace of George W. Bush. I believe more people around the world will be suffering in one way or another due to the eight years Bush was in the White House, and with power of the internet more people will have a written record of their complaints. So hopefully the media that helped elect Obama will help history not to forget, or to paint a prettier picture when time passes.
