Can Bill be happy in the shadows?

Hillary Clinton is Barack Obama’s nominee for the post of Secretary of State. This is a high profile job, one very much suited to her, but what will become of her even more famous, ex-presidential husband Bill? How will he adjust now that the tables have been turned, to a life in the shadows of his wife? Will he get involved or tell her what to do? Will he try to influence her decisions to favour his charitable work?

As the husband of the Secretary of State for the US, it is inevitable that he will travel and accompany Hillary all around the globe. He will have to play second fiddle while she talking to heads of state, some will even be from the time he was president, and she was the first lady. Bill Clinton demanding presence might make this a little difficult for everyone who might get involved. Some people might not even know who to treat as the most important one.

Hillary Clinton is a very accomplished woman in her own right, but many of the assets that made her right for this job is someone she has got her husbands presidency to thank for. Bill Clinton is one of the most respected president outside of the US in recent times. With that connection, and undoubtedly all the media attentions the Clintons will get, will they overshadow Barack Obama himself?
