Dick Cheney is still the Dick Cheney we got to know, but not love, for eight years. In an interview with CNN’s John King, he strenuously defends George W. Bush and the policies implemented during the administration Cheney was such a big part of. He also launches an outright attack on President Obama, saying that the new administration’s politics will leave America vulnerable to attack.

Cheney claimed that ‘we achieved what we set out to do’ in Iraq, that the war had been ‘worth doing’ as it eliminated the ‘biggest threat’ America faced in the wake of 9/11. Really? I guess he is right if what they set out to do was a lenghty war with no end in sight, a democracy forced on people living in the same country, but under several different religions that does not respect each other, and thereby forcing our cultural values on them. The Americans had no experience in dealing with tribal issues and customs, and the bulldozing lead by the Americans have, in my view, only heightened the terrorist threat to the west as fundamentalist Islamists only go even more fundamentalist in a reaction to the western customs forced on them. The result of this war is hundreds of thousands of civilian casualties, more than 4000 troops have lost their lives, and yes. The people in the Middle East hate us even more now. The divide between us has become even deeper, and this is all thanks to the Bush/Cheney team. Well done.
