A large number of European diplomats walked out during an address by the Iranian president Ahmadinejad, which he held at the UN’s second conference on racism. The conference was boycotted by amongst others Israel and the US, and Ahmadinejad was the only head of state to attend.

Yes, his address was racist and offensive. To the western world. President Ahmadinejad chose his words in order to offend and cause a stir, maybe even to worsen relations with the West. Or was it a test? A couple of years ago, many Danish newspapers printed cartoons of Mohammed, and under Islam the face of Mohammed must not be shown. Some of the pictures are quite offensive, one is of Mohammed as a paedophile, another shows him as a suicide bomber. Is this not racist and offensive to the Arabian world? ‘Freedom of speech’ is a selective term.

The spotlight does not favour Gordon Brown.

According to newspaper reports, Gordon Brown has only got two things right over the last nine months. That is not a good track record for a prime minister, and especially not when he was used to having an almost cult status as Chancellor of the Exchequer having made British Economy one of the best in the world. The spotlight does not favour Gordon Brown.

Is Obama’s style of governing ‘hyperactive’? A conservative talk show host in the US claims Obama’s amount of policies is like dousing the American public with petrol and lighting a match. A former adviser to the Bush administration calls the vice president a liar. Apparently there are 17 socialist in the House of Representatives. Isn’t it time the Republicans realized they lost? No, just Bob Quick. The UK’s top counter terrorist officer resigns after admitting he could have jeopardized an operation to stop a possible al-Qaeda terror plot to the UK.  I just don’t understand how it happened. He had folders in his hands. Folders that would easily have hidden his secret documents, he just chose not to use them. For someone whose job is secrecy, he didn’t do that very well. Inspector Clouseau?

The current news are all just doom and gloom over the world’s financial crisis. Recession, unemployment, bankruptcies and home repossessions – it is all just a tad too serious. So was the American presidential election, but Sarah Palin made it fun! Not deliberately, of course, but every morning I would  wake up and read something said or done that would tickle me, and make my day. Why I miss Sarah Palin.

Spend, spend, spend, says Barack Obama and Gordon Brown. The leaders of the UK and the US wanst the G20 leaders to agree to a $2tn fiscal stimulus package for the failing world economy. Nicolas Sarkozy and Angela Merkel will not agree to this, insisting that tighter financial regulations are needed, not more spending. G20 summit is not off to a good start.

The home of Sir Fred Goodwin, the face of Britain’s failing banking system, was vandalized early this morning. Three windows were broken and a car parked outside also suffered broken windows. A group calling themselves ‘Bank Bosses are Criminals’ have claimed responsibility, and warned that this is ‘just the beginning’.

Meanwhile, when asked in the congressional hearing, Edward Liddy, the new blame free boss at AIG preferred not to disclose the names of those executives receiving bonuses, because members of the public though they should be ‘strangled with piano wire’. Piano wire and toilet justice.

Mervyn King, the Governor of the Bank of England, has cautioned against further significant spending by the government to stimulate the economy. Kenneth Lewis, the Bank of America Corp. Chief Executive seems to think so. Lewis has written to congress to express his concern, saying the legislation penalizes employees who are not responsible for responsible for creating the financial crisis the US is suffering. ‘In this environment, I am very concerned about our ability to retain some of our most valuable associates’, he went on to say.
